About
Every collector knows the drawer full of unlabelled finds. Ammodia is the app that gets them out of it: photograph a fossil or a mineral, and it is catalogued.
ADD A FIND IN SECONDS
• The photo is the entry — take it, and the specimen is in your collection.
• The app searches for similar pieces you already own and offers to carry the shared details over: taxon, geological age, formation, find site. One trip to the quarry, one round of typing.
• Every field is optional. A photo on its own is a perfectly good record.
• Identify a specimen only as precisely as you know it — stopping at order, say, and choosing "Ammonites", is a complete entry.
FIND IT AGAIN WITHOUT TYPING
• Point the camera at a specimen and the app finds it in your collection by image.
• Text search covers names, notes and all details.
THE FIELDS COLLECTORS ACTUALLY USE
• Fossils: taxonomy from kingdom to species, geological age, formation, preservation, find site and date, measurements.
• Minerals: mineralogy, geology, find data, measurements.
• Several photos per specimen, so the reverse side and the detail shot stay together.
REMEMBER WHERE YOU FOUND IT
• Save the places you collect at as find sites: a name, a spot on the map, and how far the site reaches — 250 m to 25 km.
• The find location of a new specimen comes from the photo or from your current position, and inside a saved site's radius it is matched to that site by itself.
• Record how to get in: publicly accessible, permit required, private land, opening hours, a fee. Directions, what to bring and who to ask go into notes that guests never see.
• Browse your sites as a list or as pins on a map, satellite view included.
• You decide what guests see: one switch hides coordinates and map pins from them, while sites you shared on purpose stay visible.
SHARE YOUR COLLECTION
• Invite others by email — they get full access to the same collection. Made for couples, clubs and working groups who collect together.
• Hand out a guest code for read-only access: visitors, fellow collectors or an exhibition audience can browse the collection without changing anything.
• Revoke the guest code at any time and every guest loses access at once.
YOUR DATA
• Start straight away — no registration, no user account.
• Add an email address later and you can restore your collection on a new phone or manage it from several devices.
• Photos are stripped of their metadata the moment they reach the server. Where a photo carries the place it was taken, that location is read out first and kept as the find location — nothing else from the file is stored.
• Delete your collection yourself at any time, from inside the app.
WHAT IT COSTS
• Free to use. Up to 20 photos without an email address; after that an address is needed, so that a lost phone does not take the collection with it.
• 200 uploads are currently included. If you need more, just get in touch.
• Paid plans for more uploads and further features will follow. Whatever you use for free today stays free.
